Confidentiality is essential to effective support services for survivors of sexual violence and child abuse, and Julie Valentine Center protects the confidentiality of all of its clients.

Clients Who Are Adults:  Everything an adult client (or someone calling on behalf of an adult) discusses with Julie Valentine Center staff or volunteers is kept private between that client and our agency.  An adult is anyone over the age of 18.  A signed permission form by the client (or client's custodian for minors) is required before any personal information about a client is released to anyone outside the agency. The only instances in which Julie Valentine Center would report any discussion between a therapist or hotline volunteer and a client without the client’s written permission are:
  • If the client threatens harm to self or others
  • If the client discloses child abuse
  • If the Julie Valentine Center receives a court order requiring disclosure.

If the abuse occurred when the client was a child but the client is now an adult, the information is kept completely confidential and the decision to report or not report is completely the client’s decision.

Clients who are children:  Julie Valentine Center will report any abuse or neglect of a child.
  • In cases involving abuse or neglect of children, Julie Valentine Center will share information with DSS, law enforcement and other members of a multi-disciplinary team as permitted by state law.
